The MAC Timeline – 1975 to Present Day
MAC Company Formed
1975
Malcolm Anthony Carter starts MAC Roofing and Contracting Limited (4 staff and 4 x 3 man gangs of roofers).
MAC Gets Going!
1975-1980
Most of MAC Roofing’s vehicles were ex-GPO vans purchased at the auctions. On ‘wet weather days’, the MAC Team had to paint the bright yellow vans MAC blue and then sign-write them with a stencil!
MAC's First Fleet of Vehicles
1983
MAC Roofing purchases fleet of new Nissan & Daihatsu pick-up trucks.
The Family Dynasty Begins
1983
Roy Cavanagh (Terry & Lee’s Dad) starts working for MAC Roofing.
MAC's Wins Biggest Order
1985
MAC Roofing wins biggest order to date – a block of five schools for Lancashire County Council valued at £425K.
MAC Becomes a Family Business
1995-1996
Roy Cavanagh negotiates management buy-out with Malcolm Carter. Terry Cavanagh starts work at MAC, aged 16 as a roofing apprentice.
MAC Completes first £1m Project
2000
MAC’s installation team waterproofs Wylfa Power Station in Anglesey – our first £million project.
Lee Cavanagh (Co-Owner) Joins the Business
2002
Lee Cavanagh joins the business at 16, starting out as a roofing apprentice learning different disciplines before joining the Estimating Team where he now heads up the division.
Terry Takes the Helm
2004
Roy Cavanagh unexpectedly passes away, leaving Terry Cavanagh to become Managing Director of MAC Roofing at the age of 22. Terry sets out his plan to grow MAC into a leading, national, multi disciplined roofing and cladding contractor.
Landmark Project Completed
2005
MAC Roofing waterproofs prestigious Budenberg Haus Apartments in Altrincham – the first Foster & Partners project outside of London.
MAC Headquarters Established
2010
MAC Roofing Headquarters moves to a new, purpose-built premises in Bromborough, Wirral.
Les Turnell Joins the MAC Team
2013
Les starts work at MAC Roofing to increase the company’s profile in the new build sector.
MAC Acquires JWD
2016
MAC Roofing acquires JWD Architectural Aluminium, adding a specialist fabrication division to its portfolio.
MAC Expands Operations into the South
2016
Rowan Gutteridge joins as Group Director to establish and develop MACs Southern division and support the sales, bid and marketing team throughout the UK.
MAC Recognised as an Inspirational Company
2017
MAC gets listed in the London Stock Exchange’s ‘1,000 Companies to Inspire Europe’ – the only roofing contractor to achieve this accolade

MAC Acquires GRS
2019
MAC acquires Graham Roofing (Scotland) Ltd, continuing its regional expansion into Scotland.
MAC Achieves Carbon Zero Standard
2023
MAC achieves the Achilles Net Carbon Zero standard, a clear sign of the importance placed on managing and mitigating our environmental impact.
From humble beginnings to remaining humble in success – MAC continues to invest and grow into the powerhouse it is today.
